With winding roads up and down the scenic mountain pass, 15km from Graskop, you will be led to the unspoiled gold mining village of Pilgrims Rest. Along with the utmost dedication, the shop owners and the local residents have managed to preserve the unique atmosphere of the village where gold was discovered over a century ago.

The Village

The village is the only one in South Africa with National Monument status. What’s more, the village of Pilgrims Rest is able to offer many excellent quint restaurants. There are also street vendors selling their handmade products. Whilst walking from Uptown to Downtown Pilgrim’s Rest, one is flanked by mountain and scenic views. In addition, there are conferencing facilities that seat 300 people for year-end parties, and family reunions, or just a weekend away. Also, on offer and the most special of all, is weddings!

Pilgrims Rest

Pilgrims RestPilgrims Rest is a small museum town in the Mpumalanga province and is protected as a provincial heritage site. It was the second of the Transvaal gold fields, attracting a rush of prospectors in 1873.
